Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment is for those who are assessing learners in their work environment to ensure that they are occupationally competent.

The role of the assessor is to plan and carry out assessments according to the requirements of a qualification specification, set of standards or job specification. Some assessors may also be involved in the training of learners.

This course consists of two units:

  1. Understanding the principles and practices of assessment (3 credits)

  2. Assess occupational competence in the work environment (6 credits)

Topics include:

Unit 1: The principles and requirements of assessment, different types of assessment, how to plan assessment, involving others in assessment, how to make assessment decisions, quality assurance, managing information and legal and good practice requirements.   

Unit 2: Prepare and carry out assessments of occupational competence, keep records and provide information to others as required, follow policies, procedures and legislation.

This course is delivered using Moodle (an online learning platform). All work towards the assessed portfolio is also uploaded onto Moodle. This means that you can complete the course in your own time with full support from your tutor/assessor online, by email or by phone.

Your assessor will also conduct a face-to-face observation of assessment activity taking place and complete an observation report for your portfolio.

Course requirements: You must have occupational competence in the subject area that you intend to assess. You must have access to the internet and a suitable device such as laptop or tablet to complete the online learning and submit assignments. You will need access to at least 2 learners on which you can carry out at least 2 assessments on (a total of 4 assessments).

Course dates: You can start on any date you wish following the completion of a registration form and payment of the course fee. You will have 12 months from this date to complete the course.

Course cost: £450 to include registration, access to Moodle and all training and assessment activities, one face-to-face observation visit from your assessor, all Internal and External moderation as required by the Awarding Organisation (ITC).
